DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS NOT A BIBLICAL RIGHT!

https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2015/country-chapters/papua-new-guinea
And I continue my rant about domestic violence in PNG (WITH A SUNDAY FLAVOR)…
Since many truly believe that PNG is a “Christian country” we should all know the text of Ephesians by heart.
I know of many who have defended their woman bashing and emotional abuse as a biblical right and quote the text of Ephesians Chapter 5:22 as a reference.
Well, its not a biblical right.
The text of Ephesians should be read as a whole from verse 22 through to 33.
Verse 22 says: “Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.
Fine! I get that.
It goes on in Verse 23: "For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything."
Yep. Got that too. (Submission for the woman dominance for the man.)
The verses above are a favorites because it suits the mindset that the man controls everything and his demands are to be met by the woman.
BUT...
What we fail to realize is that the author goes on to say more.
In verse 25 he says: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
He goes on in verse 28: “In this same way, husbands ought to LOVE THEIR WIVES AS THEIR OWN BODIES. HE WHO LOVES HIS WIFE LOVES HIMSELF.”
Another important verse that should be read in the context of all of the above is Verse 29 "After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.
33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
IT SIMPLY MEANS. HUSBANDS TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. WHAT YOU WOULD NOT DO TO YOURSELF, YOU DON’T DO TO YOUR WIFE. RESPECT IS EARNED THROUGH YOUR ACTIONS AND NOT BECAUSE YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO BE RESPECTED.
IT TAKES AS MUCH STRENGTH TO BE WILLING TO FOLLOW AS IT DOES TO LEAD.
