RURAL AIR TRAVEL WILL BE MADE CHEAPER IN 2015

North Coast Aviation landing at Kabwum

The Civil Aviation Minister has  reaffirmed the government’s commitment to  introduce  cuts to the cost of   air travel to rural areas.
Davis Steven,  says a new policy  being developed    will l also take into account the  cost of medical evacuations and the  transportation of health  workers.

Davis Stevens, Minister for Civil Aviation
It comes as the Transport  and Civil aviation departments  work  towards reopening   rural airstrips – some of which  have been closed for more  20 years.
“This is work that is approaching its final stages now.”
Yesterday  Davis Stevens  was  in Tsewi,  in the Menyamya District of Morobe,   where the airstrip has been reopened.  It was built in 1984 but  the airlines stopped flying
The high costs are also causing the exit of  government workers.  For them, it is  too expensive and too difficult because a return ticket for one person is the equivalent of a fortnight’s pay.
